He who finds a thought that enables him to obtain a slightly deeper glimpse into the eternal secrets of nature has been given great grace. — Albert Einstein
Amazing! A record company takes advantage of illegal use of a song not sue the infringers but to use the infringement for selling the song — and succeeds wildly! (More here.) Again, infringement does no significant harm — anymore than free listens on radio or TV — and can actually increase sales. Someday, the recording industry may yet rediscover reality and give up its senseless, trouble-making beliefs….
Obama does something right. Not terribly important like, I don’t know, stopping rampant, economy-destroying Wall Street speculation, but something…. Me, I personally would expect better from the Antichrist….
The corporatist lawyers, how do they justify grossly disproportionate damages? Someone illegally downloads an album: $15.00 saved by the downloader yet an award of $80,000.00 is justifiable how? The corporatist lawyers have no problem with that but if an individual is, oh, say, crippled or killed by medical mistake or incompetence and seeks compensation through the court system, that bothers them. How do they justify that?
Just realized this morning I’m somewhat more than just an agregator, sometimes.
Normally, the humor goes at the bottom, but….
The man who has never been flogged has never been taught. — Menander
This woman has it wrong. Sarah Palin, by and by, wasn’t the victim of sexism so much as the victim of the fact that she was deliriously stupid, the dumbest pol sine Danny Quayle — who got slammed by the press just for being stupid and no more. No, without some proof that Palin was slammed for being a woman as opposed to a fucking scary choice for V.P., fugedaboutit. She was slammed solely on the merits. Besides, the guys slamming her weren’t doing because of sexism; to the contrary, they were having sex fantasies about her.
Really, just how stupid are the wingnut pundits? Can anyone say crap like O’Reilly does here and really believe it? And if they are so stupid or knowingly say such stupid things, why do the Big Media stooges report it? (And another example is here.) And if you’re not going to expose them as liars or crazies, don’t even report idiocy like this or this and give the fuckers free publicity and spread their idiocy. And that irresponsibility of the “professional journalists” results in idiocy like this. I mean, my God, who needs mass stupidity in journalistic outlets??
An observation? Can this be true? Only banks that finance the middle class are shut down. Companies — CIT is what I have in mind — that finances small business are allowed to fail. Only the big speculative organizations that have corrupted our system, essentially destroyed our nation politically, are protected. (This is what got me started.)
The criminality of being black: Shows you how times have changed or I’m so dead wrong: Of course, the cop was right to investigate a man breaking into a house. But short of the man seriously threatening the cop physically — harm or death — there is no reason to arrest him. None. There is no reason when in being caught in the wrong showing a little contrition. There is no reason for the support the fucker’s getting from his superiors. To me, all this is inarguably fucked up. The mainstream media seems to see nothing wrong. Indeed, when they deem Obama to be insufficient supportive of this cop (who has earned his ass at least a couple months of unpaid suspension), they beat up on the president. I realize for a large segment of blacks, this is normal. To me, as I said, it’s fucked up. Sick. Part of the Great Pathology brought us by what I think of the Reagan counter-revolution. And here’s why it’s still a crime.
This person is still living in the era before the Reagan Counter-revolution. Then, a healthcare system such as the present one, where the accumulation of wealth is far more important that providing healthcare, would seem bizarre, wrong. Now, it’s the idea of a system that provides affordable care at the expense of profits that seems bizarre.
Assholes: The Times makes a martyr of Tiller’s assassin, cleverly failing to note how he was driven by decades of the rightists’ crazed screeds and that the same insanity ensured there would be as few Tillers as possible, and therefore a threat to women’s health.
He’s failed on the economy, jury’s out only on the issue of how big the failure is. If he fails on this too…:
Here, a famous traitor makes a contrary argument:
(Didja catch that?? I was just more fair, more balanced, than Faux News. Hey! What happens to FNC when Rupert’s earnings shrink to the extent that he can’t support Faux and it must become profitable?)
Asshole and scumbag: David Gregory: the latest proof. For the record, he is both symptomatic of what’s wrong with the mainstream press as well as the anti-Cronkite. That’s why there’ll never be another Cronkite: Gregory and those who put him positions of authority won’t do it. They’ve proven they like Gregory’s dishonesty over Cronkite’s facts.
The GOP is not dead, it just has extremists with nothing good to offer the country, to say the least. The problem is bigger than that and that is the massive complete corruption of both parties where nearly no pol finds it in his interest to give a good God-or-other damn about the nation an our well-being. Example: Public option: after Detroit’s meltdown, if isn’t clear that some big step towards public health insurance (among other reasons) isn’t essential… well, then there’s a big problem up front at the controls….
Just so you know, book publishing is also in trouble. Amazing all the harm that has flowed from Big Business’ post-RJR-Nabisco refusal to focus on the long term ’cause Wall Street only cared about short-term and made management care for it as well to businesses’ detriment.
And speaking of awesome, the pathological greed of the destroyers of the economy is pretty damn awesome as well. These people weren’t our best and the brighest but simple sociopaths — who Obama clearly feels are the ones who need true help as opposed to, you know, an impoverished middle class in a consumer society. (But you know, he just wants to get the economic numbers up enough to get re-elected, he doesn’t care about fixing anything substantive or structural.)
