A possible future, but incredible for publishing. And this example, while cool and pretty, isn’t even the full story. For that, there’s a big clue at BoingBoing’s review of “The Elements”: non-fiction writings can now live in the third dimension. Once written, they are no longer frozen but will have the ability to give access to instant updating and supplemental material. What an incredible means of accessing information and knowledge!Of course, no possible future is assured. The iPad may be iPod redux, or not. But it’s already showing us what our loss would be if it doesn’t repeat (and more!) the iPod’s success (the most important part of which is actually still kind of nascent, but that’s another story).
